On a recent visit to the American Southwest, I first encountered the region of the Prescott National Forest in Northern Arizona. I was immediately struck by the scenic beauty of the place. Powerful mountains form a distant backdrop to a seemingly endless forest of sage bush. This unspoiled “high desert” also brings a palpable sense of isolation.
