I think this is a charming piece. Originally written by Jacques Offenbach as a Centennial gift to the United States, American Eagle Waltz really gives the soloist a chance to show off. Jules Levi, the leading cornet virtuoso of the late 1800's was the soloist when this was first premiered, but Bernie Black, River City Brass Band Principal Solo Cornetist, really made this his own.
